A brief history of the Inkthistle Hollow Community Library

The Inkthistle Hollow Community Library is located in the deepest part of the Inkthistle Forest, but due to several enchantments, you can’t possibly miss it if you set out looking for it.

Its current caretaker, Hazel, set those up when the library was passed down to her, since she lives there alone, but thrives on the company of others. She hosts parties, book clubs, the occasional seance, and opens the library as a space for all the folk of Inkthistle Hollow to use and enjoy however they need.

But the library has always been more than a meeting place. Long before Hazel, her ancestors carried a much heavier burden. Long ago, Hazel’s magical ancestors were known as the guardians of worlds.

They were born into the honor of using their magical powers to keep all the worlds separate. Some worlds are harmless, like the kind you’d stumble across in storybooks. Others, though, are far darker. The witches and wizards spent their days in solitude, pouring every ounce of magic into their task. Their only goal: to keep the worlds separate.

This wore thin, and after countless generations, some particularly crafty and powerful witches gave up their magical powers and trapped them inside a crystal, which could do that job all on its own.The library was erected to guard the crystal, and keep the books close by. After all, they are the first to stir when the magic weakens.

Nowadays, the only responsibility of the caretaker is to keep the crystal from breaking. What could go wrong, right?
